This is a photograph of one of the few surviving first-edition copies of the Proclamation of 1916, also known as the Easter Proclamation. It is one of 2,500. This copy of the Proclamation displayed at the Trinity College Library was on loan at the time from another institution, the Kilmainham Jail Restoration Committee. Distributed on Easter Morning, April 24, 1916, the Proclamation of 1916 is the Republic of Ireland's version of the American Declaration of Independence, and proclaims that Ireland is a republic independent from the United Kingdom.
